As we are mostly dealing with occupational health and safety, my main interest was in the effects of low dose radiation exposure (for example with doctors and nurses working with radiation, airport security control workers, pilots and cabin crews of airplanes, etc.)
But I knew that estimation of low dose exposures was quite difficult (because the mechanism is still under study) so I wanted to start by learning about the effects of radiation exposure by focusing on Hiroshima’s experiences and RERF research works.
Practically, I hoped to learn as much as possible about immunology, immunogenome studies, radiation induced DNA/RNA damage, relation of radiation and cancers, practical analysis methods, and equipment and software. I really appreciate the fact that most of my requests were met in the HICARE Training Program.
When I go back home, I will share what I learned including the methods of study with my colleagues. I also hope to introduce the Japanese work culture such as punctuality and respect for ones’ colleagues, as well as the Japanese work environment.
