Invited by HICARE, I trained for one month in Hiroshima. It was the first time I heard of the relief measures being conducted by the Japanese government for both A-bomb survivors and their children. My stay in Hiroshima was very comfortable, thanks to the friendly reception by the people of Hiroshima and HICARE..
Visiting the Peace Memorial Park at the beginning of the training, I was astonished by the catastrophe caused by the bombing. I was also impressed by Hiroshima’s activities regarding the abolishment of nuclear weapons, as well as its significant efforts towards the realization of world-peace. In addition, having opportunities to hear lectures by experts at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Casualty Council, and the Hiroshima Kyouritsu Hospital, I had many opportunities to learn about numerous topics regarding medicine for survivors of the bomb. I feel strongly that these organizations efforts play an important role in the world, and that the fruits of their labors are quite tangible.
At the Hiroshima University Hospital, my main training organization, I was privileged to study both human reproduction and gynecologic endoscopy, broadening my knowledge and experience.
Having completed the HICARE training course, I feel a new desire to, through my department at the Nipo-Brasileiro Hospital, support A-bomb survivors living in Brazil.
