When I get the opportunity to provide medical care to A-bomb survivors as a nurse working in the U.S., I would like to give consideration to understanding not only their physical disorders but also their emotional distress, anxieties and fears.
Through cooperating in the promotion of medical examinations for A-bomb survivors in Honolulu, I would like to contribute to the early detection of disease and the improvement of health management in A-bomb survivors residing in the U.S.
[Dr. S. Matsuda]
Growing up in Hiroshima, reading books about A-bombing and having two grandmothers who were exposed to radiation, I had thought that I knew everything there was to know about A-bombing. However, I found that I was wrong. There were many facts that I didn't know. I was forced to change my attitude toward A-bomb survivors.
I would like to contribute to and participate in the next medical examination for A-bomb survivors in Hawaii. Furthermore, I intend to share what I learned here with my colleagues and superiors at the Kuakini Health System. This will help them understand what A-bomb survivors have faced and provide them with considerate care.
