I received the detailed itinerary of HICARE training in advance, which seemed to me well-organized. As soon as I arrived at Hiroshima Airport, I was greeted by the staff of HICARE. Therefore, I didn't feel embarrassed at all. Soon after arriving, I visited Hiroshima City Hall, Hiroshima Prefectural Government Office and Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association. I realized that the training program could be carried out due to the support of many people, to whom I was very grateful. Then, I attended productive lectures on medicine, biology, genetics and physics, which were very informative. I was particularly impressed by a lecture about leading-edge treatment and researches conducted at the Hiroshima University Hospital. This will be very helpful for me in examining A-bomb survivors. Moreover, I discovered which way science is expected to advance on the basis on the achievements produced over the past 60 years. On the final day, I visited Miyajima. The training was a great experience and truly unforgettable. I really appreciate your kind cooperation.

Through the training, I learned what happened around the epicenter of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, despite staying in Hiroshima for only a week. It was very beneficial for me to learn about the misery of the atomic-bomb victims and the devastation that the atomic bomb caused to Hiroshima. All of the lectures given at HICARE, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation and the Hiroshima University were very interesting. I was able to acquire knowledge concerning the acute and chronic effects of radiation exposure, treatment of diseases caused by radiation exposure, ongoing inspections of radiation exposure, and an excellent network that has been established in Japan to respond to radiation accidents.
